Tournament Format

The draw is such that every team will have maximum number of games. Teams play 4 pool play games each / play every team in their
group once. Then the teams are reseeded based on the pool play results. The top 2 teams from each pool advance to the semifinals. The
top team from Pool A (A1) plays the second best team from Pool B (B 2) while the second best team from Pool A (A2) plays the top team
from Pool B (B1)
Semifinals I: A1 Vs B2
Semifinals II: A2 Vs B1
The winners face off in the title decider.
Other than these, there will also be a placement bracket (Losers final for the 2 losing semifinalists, and round robin games for the
teams that don't make it to the semis).
* Tie Breakers follow UPA round robin rules.
Tournament Rules
• Chennai Heat is a 7 vs. 7 tourney with a 6/1 gender split. This means that at any point of time, there MUST be at least 1
woman on the field for a team. A team may chose to play more women on the field. The opponent team is encouraged to reflect the same
number of women in line with the Spirit of The Game. Usually it will be the offensive team that decides the gender ratio.
• Substitutions only on account of injury or on completion of point.
• Unlimited substitutions
• Regular field size (70 yards by 40 yards playing field, 25 yards by 40 yards end zone)
• Game to 9 points. First team to 9 points (by 2 points) wins. If at 9 points, there isn't a 2 point difference, first to reach 10
points wins
• Soft cap - 40 min long, hard cap - 50 minutes
• Definition of Hard-cap: Game will stop at the end of the current point when the hard cap is reached. If at 50 min hard cap, if both
teams are tied (eg. at 6 - 6), golden goal rule will apply.
• Definition of Soft-cap: At the end of 40 min, you add 2 points to the highest score, and play to achieve that score. Whichever team
gets to that mark (before hard cap) wins. For example, if at Soft Cap, Team A leads Team B at 6 - 4, the first team to reach 6+2 = 8
(before Hard Cap) wins.
